  • Prepare the powered pole pruner for work safely, without risk to themselves, other people or the environment
  • Carry out daily and routine maintenance on the powered pole pruner
  • Operate the powered pole pruner safely, effectively and comfortably in accordance with a practical risk assessment

  • State the identified knowledge that underpins an understanding of operating a powered pole pruner
  • Identify the risk assessment and emergency procedures on a work site

This course involves a combination of theory and practical work and will culminate with a formal assessment at the end of the day for Lantra Awards, and on a separate day for NPTC City & Guilds.

NPTC CS47 Operate a Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform

This 1-day course is designed for professionals employed in arboriculture, forestry, utility industries, horticulture, landscaping or grounds maintenance who are required to use a chainsaw from a mobile elevating work platform.

Applicants must have previously completed NPTC CS30 Maintain & Operate the Chainsaw and NPTC CS31 Fell & Process Small Trees.  They must also hold a suitable certificate of competence in operating the MEWP that is going to be used.

Lantra Awards Stump Grinding Operations

A 1-day course designed for those employed in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscaping and grounds maintenance.

The aim of this course is to demonstrate best practice and safe use of equipment.

Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rigging

CS41This unit cover the use of a chainsaw and lowering equipment working from a rope and harness in conjunction with a ground person in medium sized open grown trees.  It also includes the use of climbing irons.

Pre-requisite courses are

  • Identify, inspect and comment on key parts of equipment
  • Preparation and safe use of the equipment
  • Operate a chainsaw within the crown of a tree using a rope and harness
  • Use lowering ropes to carry out lowering and sectional felling operations
  • Undertake a range of arboricultural operations without risk
